Eastern Texas

We visited the Johnson Space Center at NASA, Houston, Texas. Dan enjoyed it more than I did, but since we'd already visited the StennisSphere Center in Mississippi, NASA seemed a bit redundant. We toured the training facility, and another section where they are building the space station evacuation vehicle (Editor's Note: this project was cancelled some time in 2004). The exhibits were informative and I even found my brand of dental floss on the shuttle mock-up. We nearly froze to death at the Imax Theatre and neither of us can even remember what the movie was about -- we were too busy shivering to take notice.

The Saturn 5 rocket is about 360 feet high and about 30 feet wide. It can carry 120 tons into orbit around the earth or launch 45 tons to the moon

We visited the Moody Aquarium in Galveston, Texas which was one of the best aquariums I've ever visited -- better even than "The Living Seas" at Epcot Center. It had a neat tube you could walk though and see fish swimming overhead. We also saw a film, The Great Storm, about the 1900 hurricane that nearly destroyed Galveston. More info HERE
