Since we didn't want to be anywhere important over the Fourth of July, we holed up in Rochester, Minnesota (home of the Mayo Clinic) for a few days. We chose Rochester for one reason only -- cheap hotels. We then went across to Chicago and stayed with family for a few days. We ventured into the city for only one day, taking the commuter train in and riding home with my brother. We walked a mile and half through the city to the Field Museum, part of the big three museums in Chicago. After an entire day in one building, we'd only scratched the surface of what was available to see. We were fortunate, however, to see Sue -- the largest, most complete and best preserved T-Rex fossil in the world. She was incredible (and scary). |

We skipped through a lot of the exhibits because we were pressed for time, but were able to see meteors, precious gems, more bones than you can shake a stick at and an extremely cool Egyptian exhibit, complete with mummies. |
