Grand Teton National Park |
|
We ventured back into Yellowstone, but only because it was the only way to access Grand Teton National Park. By this time buffalo were a bit passé and we were slightly short-tempered with all the idiots stopping along the roadside and snarling traffic just to get pictures (Sheesh! It's only a buffalo! Drive another five minutes, you'll see fifty more.) The drive along the Snake River through Grand Teton National Park was amazing. The Tetons are a range of 10+ craggy mountains that range in elevation from 11,300 feet to 13,700 feet. We were at about 6000 feet already but they towered over us. Of course, all of them were snow-covered. We were going to take a trail up to a hidden falls but the trail was two and a half miles (one way!!!) so we decided against it. We then found a boat that shuttled across the lake for a small stipend of $7 each, and thus cut two miles off the hike, so naturally we took the lazy way out and bought ourselves two round-trip tickets. Unfortunately a storm blew in before we launched and the crew warned us we might be stranded on the far side, so we cashed in our tickets and hit the road. |

| We spent that night in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, a lovely old-west type town with wood plank sidewalks and old-west looking buildings, lots of leather shops and overpriced restaurants and gift shops...you know, typical tourist trap. Still, it was charming in its own way. |
