Idaho and Montana |
|
In Idaho we spent the night at the state's largest lake,
Lake Pend
Orielle, and had the best dinner we've had yet at a small lakeside restaurant. It was a bit brisk sitting on the deck, but it was lovely nonetheless. We went on to Montana and tried to visit Glacier National Park but there was still so much snow (it’s June, for heaven’s sake…hasn’t anyone told these people about global warming?) that the park roads aren't completely open yet and we were able to see very little. |

Perhaps it's the power of suggestion, but the sky really does seem bigger here in Montana's Big Sky Country. This state is more than four times the size of Maine, with only 75% of Maine's population. It is vast valleys of velvety green meadows rolling off toward the snow-capped mountains in the far distance. The weather was lovely with bright blue skies full of fluffy white clouds, some hanging so low that it looked like a suspended ceiling above us. A photograph surely wouldn't do justice to this lovely place. In fact, a seashore is the only thing Montana lacks -- otherwise it's perfect (though I wouldn't want to spend a winter here). |
