Always get at least 1Gb of ram! -  some budget PC's only come with 512mb and this is simply not enough and the PC will be s l o w !

Dual Core processor - get more performance and less waiting, unless you're on a real tight budget get a dual core processor.

Always check the higher priced models! - sometimes the lowest priced Dell looks good but if you add a few extras like bigger screen or more memory the price shoots up above the price of the mid priced model that already came with those higher specifications.... so you could get more for less by choosing a higher priced model than you started with.

Business PCs are cheaper than the Home PCs?
Sometimes you can save a far amount of money by buying a Dell PC from their small business section, you don't have to be a business to buy from this section, remember prices shown exclude delivery and VAT usually, so you need to actually put the chosen item in your basket (you're not committed to purchase so don't worry!) and see the final price including delivery and VAT. Note that you don't get the 7 day return option that 'Home PC' purchasers get, the consumer law doesn't cover business equipment so you can't send it back if you decide you don't like it for some reason.

Price too high despite what they advertise as? - Dell always adds an extended guarantee to the price when you start to pick your options... so a PC priced at £350 suddenly becomes £429 because Dell adds on the extra cover, to reduce the price (and the guarantee cover of course) there's a service option tick box.

Laptop purchase? - often there's a battery upgrade available for about £12 which gives much more battery life but buy it at the same time as buying the laptop as the battery alone costs £60!
